Artist Statement

“I am interested in how light and colour, particularly in the natural world, influence how we feel ... for example, I am fascinated how the lengthening shadows on a winter’s afternoon can evoke a melancholic response in me, whereas the poetic silhouettes created by glints of morning sunlight can produce feelings of optimism and hope.

I like to explore the tension between abstraction and illusion and I use the materiality of the paint to explore this interface, often blurring, dissolving and partly erasing images.”
